Xperia X1 and Android 2.0.1

Posted by kriston On February - 4 - 2010

nexus-one-devour-compare-1Tired of waiting for the Xperia X10 for your first taste of Android and Sony Ericsson? Leave it to the gang at the XDA-developers forum to jump the gun. Last week marked the successful port of Android 2.0.1 (or Android 1.6, if you so choose) to the Xperia X1. No bluetooth, camera, or GPS — not yet, at any rate — but WiFI, GSM, resistive touchscreen, and all the other amenities should be functioning.

Sony Ericsson’s Xperia Pureness

Posted by Sebastin On February - 2 - 2010

sony ericsonHere’s the thing about Sony Ericsson’s Xperia Pureness: once you get past the translucent display, there’s not much to it. Seriously — it doesn’t have 3G, a camera, hunks of precious metal, or even a fancy name to flaunt like Vertu, Dior, or Versace; it’s just a low-end phone from a mass-market manufacturer that can’t do much other than make calls. We suppose that’s why it was so easy for a Shenzhen KIRFer to pop out this near-perfect duplicate of the Pureness — the Somy X5 — in no time. Heck, it’s even got support for two SIMs, or exactly twice as many as you’ll find on the $1,000 genuine article — which, if you’re keeping track, is over twelve times the bargain-basement sticker on the Somy here at RMB 550 ($81).

Sony Ericsson Kurara accidentally announced early, now known as “Vivaz”

Posted by wilson On January - 21 - 2010

vivaz1-630x417Don’t you just hate it when some big dumb press release company spills the beans on your top secret product long before you intended? Wait, you’ve never experienced that? Well, neither have we. We were just trying to, you know, connect with our readers or something.

Sony Ericsson, on the other hand, has felt that burn. Just today, in fact! We’d already heard rumors and tales of an 8 megapixel Symbian phone called the Sony Ericsson Kurara; thanks to some mis-scheduling, it’s now about as official as things get.

Here’s what we learned before they pulled down the presser:

* The Kurara is now called the “Vivaz”. We liked the old name better; it reminded me of that “your crew run run” line in Notorious B.I.Gs “Hypnotize“.
* It will launch sometime in Q1 of 2010 — in other words, sometime in the next 2-3 months.
* Four colors: Silver Moon, Cosmic Black, Galaxy Blue and Venus Ruby.
* 8.1 megapixel camera, capable of recording video at 720p, with continuous autofocus, geotagging, smile detection, and image stabilization.
* It’ll run S60 5th edition with the same stylistic tweaks as you’d find on the Sony Ericsson Satio

One detail the press release skimped on was the price. According to the dudes over at PhoneArena, we should expect it to come in somewhere between $670 and $750 bucks.

Sony Ericsson Xperia X3 Spotted

Posted by kriston On October - 19 - 2009

sony-xperiax-3Lots of mobile phone news today… Next up is the Sony Ericsson Xperia X3 that was just spotted live in the wild. The Sony Xperia X3 is an Android based phone that was first heard of a few months back.

Although the image is quite small and doesn’t really show that much details, it’s still good to see that the phone is actually getting nearer to production. It is also expected that both the X2 and X3 will be released at similar times as they run different operating systems. The Xperia X3 will be powered by a 1GHz Snapdragon processor built by Qualcomm that should make it a snappy device and probably also good timing for Android 2.0 which was recently captured. Connectivity wise the Sony Xperia X3 will connect over HSDPA networks as well as Wi-Fi although at this point it is unknown if it will be 802.11n or more than likely a step down from what.As can be expected on a device of this capacity, the X3 will have integrated GPS for making use of location based services and Maps, satnav etc….

The phone is expected to have a capacitive screen measuring 4 inches that can display a very good 852 x 480 pixels. Also included will be an 8 megapixel camera. It looks set to be an impressive phone and if the current X3 specs are to be made official it no doubt will be one of the devices to compete with.
