Will this phone ever stop surprising us? Rumblings that all HD2 devices have 576MB of RAM inside them started developing in China a little while before T-Mobile unveiled its upgraded US-bound handset with, funnily enough, the same amount of memory. Now, those trusty souls over at XDA-developers have concocted custom ROMs for everyone else to free up the extra 128MB of operational headroom, and user feedback appears to corroborate the theory. We can hardly begin to fathom the reasons for HTC disabling part of its available hardware, other than to guess that a WinMo 7 upgrade was in the company’s plans for this phone all along and it just wanted to keep its ability to handle the new OS under wraps.

HTC Supersonic to get Android 3.0?
The HTC Supersonic was one of the phones included on a leaked roadmap of HTC devices to launch this year. A screenshot from the said phone has said to have been leaked to BGR and shows that the smartphone is to run Android 3.0.
BGR do say that the tipster is a new guy, so they haven’t been able to verify if it’s the real deal or not just yet. However, if real then it shows the phone running on the T-Mobile network along with the OS as being Android 3.0.
Of course the screenshot could have been easily faked so we’ll wait longer for more details to see if in fact we can expect a T-Mobile Android 3.0 HTC Supersonic phone any time soon.

HTC Dragon Coming Soon?
We have no idea when the Dragon is actually coming but it looks like the handset is currently being tested by Google. In fact rumors say that “senior Android guys” are currently carrying the Dragon/Passion and testing it. According to TechCrunch the phone should arrive in the following months and it’s supposed thinner than the Droid or the iPhone 3GS. Also of interest is the 1GHz Snapdragon processor from Qualcomm which is rumored to power all our mobile needs on an HTC Dragon.
The phone hasn’t been officially confirmed by either Google or HTC. No carrier has leaked any plans regarding the Dragon so we might not see it in stores this year. But the fact that Android execs are currently playing with the Dragon/Passion is all we need so far. We know the phone exists and we hope to see it, if not this year then maybe early next year.
COOLe – clone of HTC Snap
Here is another clone phone done by Shanzai, a clone of the HTC Snap and also looks close to the BlackBerry. It’s been given a hardly memorable name called COOLe8900-2 or just call it COOLe in short. The COOLe is based on the Mediatek’s turnkey platform, which also powers many thousands other China-made phones. This clone phone has a slightly smaller display that measures 2.2 inch and has a 240 × 320 resolution, while the HTC Snap’s display offers same resolution but is slightly larger at 2.4 inches. For the dimensions, the Coole is slightly shorter than the Snap, comes in the dimensions of 109mm × 58mm × 13.5mm. And it’s 5 gram heavier than the Snap.
The phone is capable of doing most video and music formats since it’s powered by the Mediatek’s turnkey platform. It also has built-in FM receiver and offers the common feature found in lots of Chinese cloned phones i.e. dual sim capability. It is ready for GSM and Bluetooth connectivity.
HTC HD2 Unboxed
The highly anticipated HTC HD2 has just been unboxed and uploaded to Youtube in the last day. Although the box used is just a temporary box, it’s still good to see the actual phone and what it looks like while booting up etc…
We are still waiting for a HD2 to arrive here and have been told that there are no review units around anywhere just yet… so someone must have a a secret stash of them somewhere… do tell if you are one of those who know.
Items included in the box are a charger, hands free kit along with inline controls as well as a USB cable for charging/syncing. On to the phone it’s self, the most striking feature of the HTC HD2 is the huge screen that the phone has. Read the rest of this entry »
HTC Desire Spotted
The HTC Desire was recently captured on camera for what seems to be the first time. The Desire was first spotted about 7 weeks ago early in September where all the information that was available there referred to it as a HTC Desire 6200. Also back then it was also indicated that it would be an Android based phone.
The photograph capturing the HTC Desire does confirm that it is indeed an Android based phone. The phone is branded by Verizon and is said to be a very similar size to the HTC Hero. A close look at the picture shows that there could be the usual trackball in the middle towards the bottom of the phone along with 2, possibly 6 hard buttons which I assume is send/end calls for 2 of them along with a Home button, menu, back and search possibly.
As of yet no details on what processor it will be running are available and what camera, size of screen etc… According to BGR’s source the phone is said to be fast and also runs the Sense UI. Expect official details soon to be launched.
HTC Snap and HTC Touch Pro2 Get Win Mo 6.5 Upgrade
Just last week Windows Mobile 6.5 was officially launched. Thanks to the upgrade HTC are now offering ROM upgrades for the HTC Snap and HTC Touch Pro2.
As of now only European versions of the phones are capable of being upgraded via the HTC website. For those out of Europe you’ll need to wait for your carrier to inform you of when the update is available through them.
The upgrade for the HTC Snap takes it from Windows Mobile 6.1 to 6.5. The ROM is numbered 2.03.405.2 and is available now for download on the HTC site. When upgrading your HTC Snap, make sure you follow the instructions step by step to avoid causing damage to the phone. There are a number of warnings that HTC provide such as carrier details being wiped by the update as well as personal data.
The HTC Touch Pro2 upgrade is just the same as the Snap version in terms of warnings and what it does, ie, from WM 6.1 to WM 6.5. The upgrade for the Touch Pro2 is available here for download and will bring the phone up to ROM version 1.86.401.0.
HTC Launches Stunning HD2 Smartphone
Now this is killer: HTC has unveiled the HD2, a Windows Mobile 6.5-powered smartphone that’s just 0.4-inches thick. That’s despite its enormous 4.3-inch, 480-by-800-pixel capacitive touch display and next-generation 1GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon mobile CPU. (That display is almost an inch bigger than the iPhone’s 3.5-inch panel.)
The HTC HD2 will be the first Windows Mobile smartphone to feature multi-touch. HTC also outfitted the HD2 with HTC Sense, the company’s less-radical, alternative interface to TouchFLO 3D that made its debut on the Android-powered HTC Hero. Whatever interface it has, that processor should make Windows Mobile 6.5 fly.
Like other Windows Mobile 6.5 handsets, the HD2 will also let users browse, buy, and download new apps from Windows Marketplace for Mobile. The device includes a 5-megapixel camera, a proximity sensor that prevents false screen touches when on calls, and an optional car kit for better in-car GPS navigation.
The HD2 will land later this month on several carriers across Europe, before “rolling out to other regions in the coming months.” Here’s hoping.
