In launching the Android-based Smartphone model releasing in January, Google said the device would be available through Vodafone in UK T-Mobile and Verizon Wireless in the USA. The new Android 2.2, announced Thursday, appears to enable 802.11n networking on the Google Nexus One Smartphone. When we tested it in our labs, we found that the 802.11n support didn’t increase maximum Internet speeds on the phone, but it really helped when we were far away from the Wi-Fi router, it will be available for free for the Google Nexus. In our second location, roughly 50 feet away from the router, 802.11n delivered a significant boost in throughput. The average download speed on Wireless-N was 7.68Mbps, compared to 802.11g’s average of 2.89Mbps. The difference in upload speed was even more dramatic; it averaged 5.44 Mbps, which was 13 times as fast as the .41Mbps over 802.11g.The Nexus one retails for $529 with no contract or u can available on $179 with a 2year T-Mobile service contract.
